Double-storey extension in Epping Forest greenbelt zone
This residential project involved the renovation and extension of a detached house located within the protected greenbelt of Epping Forest, near London. The scheme required sensitive design and planning coordination to comply with strict development restrictions.
The design included a two-storey rear extension, loft conversion, and full internal refurbishment. Full-height glazed panels were used in the extension to maximise natural light in the kitchen and dining area. A low-pitched roof, under 10 degrees, was developed using specialist tiles to meet height constraints while preserving consistency with the existing roofline.
The loft conversion added a new bedroom and bathroom, improving the overall spatial configuration. Interior updates focused on creating a refined atmosphere through tall internal doors, bespoke joinery, and custom kitchen and utility cabinetry. A compact wine cellar was also introduced, accessed discreetly from the living room.
The result is a contemporary upgrade that balances planning sensitivity with improved layout, functionality, and material finish.
