Urban design proposal for Salerno’s port-city interface redevelopment

Our proposal for the Salerno port redevelopment competition reimagines the city-port interface as a civic hub. The site lies between Zaha Hadid’s maritime terminal and Bofill’s Crescent, lacking clear urban identity.
We proposed a layered, accessible public realm with a raised park and pedestrian paths connecting the Crescent and port. Underneath, an underground parking garage frees surface space for gathering and green infrastructure.
Civic buildings and small businesses flank the site, activating edges and ensuring day-to-night vitality. A festival area, green roof features, and sustainable water use strategy support ecological goals.
This design blends infrastructure with experience—creating a place where movement, nature, and public life meet.
