Rear extension in Aylesbury, Buckinghamshire with skylights and low-pitch roof
This small extension project in Buckinghamshire introduced a bright open-plan area at the rear of a contemporary house. Height constraints created by a low existing window meant the new roof required a shallow pitch.
Specialised tiles for pitches under 10 degrees were sourced. Openable skylights were used to improve ventilation and bring natural light into the kitchen. The ceiling and walls were kept simple, allowing light to bounce through the space.
The interior now flows better between the kitchen and lounge, improving functionality without significant footprint changes. It’s an example of how architectural detailing can solve everyday layout issues.
