Central Greenwich home expanded upward with planning constraints resolved
This architecture and project management intervention in Central Greenwich transformed a home previously converted from industrial use. The site lacked permitted development rights, posing a unique planning challenge. Our proposal included an upward extension and a lateral one, requiring detailed dialogue with the local authority to meet planning regulations and overcome privacy and daylight concerns for adjacent buildings.
Surrounded on three sides by residential and commercial units, the project needed careful massing to avoid overshadowing. The final design offers a stepped volumetric solution that respects both site constraints and client needs. Internally, the home now features improved natural light, increased floor space, and better zoning for family life.
The upward addition was constructed with lightweight materials to reduce structural impact. The side extension flows into a generous kitchen-living area with sliding glass doors opening onto a reworked courtyard. Interior finishes were selected for long-term durability and reflect a calm, modern aesthetic.
This project highlights our ability to guide complex urban renovations through both architectural vision and planning strategy, delivering a solution that respects context and enhances lifestyle.
