Interior reimagining of therapy space in Barcelona
We were approached by a team of psychologists in Barcelona who wanted more than just a cosmetic upgrade for their studio. Their goal was to use interior design as a tool to actively influence and improve the mental wellbeing of their clients. This vision required a deep understanding of both spatial design and psychological impact.
Our team conducted research on environmental psychology and how colour, materiality, and spatial organisation affect mood and perception. Based on our findings, we chose a palette of soft neutrals and calming earthy tones, avoiding the sterile, clinical feel often found in medical environments. Natural textures such as light wood, linen, and ceramic were introduced to evoke warmth and tactility.
Rather than rigid partitions, we used open shelving, curtains, and curved furniture arrangements to zone the space while preserving a sense of flow. Light was carefully layered—ambient lighting to reduce harsh contrasts, task lights for clarity, and warm accent lights to soften corners.
Artworks were curated to reflect both cultural relevance and therapeutic symbolism. The waiting area includes sensory elements such as soft fabrics and tactile surfaces to reduce anxiety.
By working closely with the psychologists and incorporating client feedback throughout the process, we created an environment that encourages openness and calm, subtly supporting the therapeutic journey.
