Compact Hampstead architecture with Victorian window, marble, and custom joinery
This compact architecture project in Hampstead blends historic charm with contemporary interior design. At the heart of the home is a seven-metre-long Victorian-style window, which spans the open-plan living and kitchen area. A double-height ceiling enhances the vertical volume, making the space feel open and full of natural light.
Marble finishes were used in both the kitchen and bathroom, while hardwood floors and integrated storage support a sense of functionality. The bespoke joinery includes shelving and a built-in reading bench that makes full use of available space. Interior detailing references Victorian elements, but the overall palette and layout remain modern.
The house includes a small but efficient kitchen, a full bathroom, and a sleeping nook. Lighting, acoustics, and ventilation were all designed to maximise everyday comfort. The project’s scale demonstrates how compact homes can still achieve architectural and interior quality through good planning and material selection.
This home was created as a permanent residence rather than a temporary solution, making it a strong example of biophilic and sustainable small-scale architecture in London.
