Fagiolino House — Nautical Residential Interior Design, Amalfi Coast
The clients came to us with a home on the Amalfi Coast — a house defined by its setting, overlooking the sea above the small fishing village of Furore. They wanted an interior that was thoroughly personal and rooted in the place: not a generic luxury finish, but something that felt as though it had always belonged there. The brief was to design the principal living spaces in Phase 1, with further rooms and details to follow.
The approach
The nautical setting gave us a clear direction, without tipping into the literal. We chose a palette grounded in the house itself: deep blues and greens in the bathrooms, each with a terrazzo basin or vanity that carries the weight of the room quietly. The kitchen takes burgundy as its tone — a warmer counterpoint to the cooler rooms. All the joinery is in cherry wood with brass detailing throughout, a combination that reads as both warm and precise. Where the original floor could be preserved, it was. Where it could not, we used parquet, chosen to sit alongside it without competing.
The curved section of the building informed one of the most considered details of the project: the window treatment. The blinds in that section are designed to run as a single continuous blind, wrapping the full arc of the space so that when drawn, the walls themselves become the blind. It is the kind of detail that only works if you design for the architecture rather than around it.
The Dirty Work — Creating the New Framework
The first phase focused on transforming the existing layout and establishing the foundations for the entire renovation. The property was carefully stripped back, removing redundant partitions, finishes and existing services to reveal the building’s underlying structure and create a clean starting point for the new design. The internal layout was then reconfigured to create the new spatial arrangement, with walls and partitions rebuilt according to the architectural plan. At the same time, the plumbing and HVAC systems were completely reorganised to suit the new rooms and future requirements of the house. New routes and connections were coordinated within the walls, floors and ceilings, ensuring that the infrastructure was installed correctly from the outset and ready to support the subsequent stages of the project. This phase established the technical and spatial framework on which the rest of the renovation would be built.

The Clean Up — Defining the Spaces
With the new layout and services established, the second phase focused on giving the spaces their finished architectural character. Plasterboard was installed to form the new walls, ceilings and architectural details, creating clean surfaces and preparing the rooms for their final finishes. Tiling was then carefully installed throughout the bathrooms and other designated areas, with materials, patterns and junctions coordinated with the overall interior design. The final stage of this phase was painting, bringing together the new surfaces and creating the chosen palette for each room. This stage marked the transition from the structural framework of the renovation to the finished interior, with the spaces beginning to reflect the character and atmosphere of the final design.

The Jigsaw — Bespoke Joinery
The third phase focused on the production and installation of the bespoke joinery. Each element was carefully developed and initially manufactured in the workshop, allowing the details and finishes to be refined under controlled conditions before being brought to site. Templates were then taken on site to accurately capture the final dimensions and account for any variations in the existing building. These measurements informed the final production and ensured that each piece fitted precisely within the space. The joinery was then installed on site, integrating seamlessly with the architecture, finishes and wider interior design.

Finally — Bringing Everything Together
The final phase brought all the elements of the renovation together. With the architectural works, finishes, services and bespoke joinery complete, the focus shifted to the final layers that give the spaces their identity. Lighting, furniture, fixtures, accessories and carefully selected finishes were installed and coordinated, allowing each element to work as part of one cohesive design. The result is a fully resolved interior where architecture, materials, joinery and furnishings come together to create a space that feels considered, balanced and complete.

Ready for the Next Chapter
With the main areas of the home now complete and fully habitable, the project enters its next design phase. The focus will shift to the remaining spaces, including the bedrooms, marble elements and studio, developing each area with the same attention to detail and continuity as the first phase. Rather than treating these as separate rooms, the new designs will build on the character and material palette already established throughout the home, allowing the project to evolve naturally while maintaining a cohesive overall vision.
