THE PROJECT
A landscape design for the first plot surrounding a commercial office building in London. The brief began as landscape only. We proposed extending it: using the external space commercially, with a kiosk and an area configured for corporate events. The client agreed, and the scheme was developed to include both.
The project came with a specific constraint. The demolition of the existing building had to meet a recycling target, and the windows could not be recycled through conventional channels. We found a company that would take the glass from the windows and the bricks, break them down, mix them with cement, and produce floor tiles from the result. The paving of the new external space is made from the building it replaced.
It was the first of three plots planned for the site. The wider project changed direction halfway through and the other two plots were not developed. The first plot was delivered complete.
