THE PROJECT

The clients were a couple: she was from Scotland, he was from Morocco. The brief was an extension, but the real question behind it was how to make a space that felt like both of them.

Moroccan craft has a long tradition of using colour and pattern in architecture, not as decoration applied to a surface but as the surface itself. Mosaic is one of the most direct expressions of that: geometric, precise, and completely tied to the material it is made from.

The orange mosaic was the decision that answered the brief. It gave the extension a clear visual identity rooted in one half of the clients' background, without making a pastiche of it. The colour is warm and specific. The pattern is architectural rather than ornamental. The result is a space that carries something personal without announcing it.

One material. One decision. The whole room followed from it.
