THE PROJECT

A passive house proposal on a plot in Buckinghamshire. The design was developed to passive house principles: high levels of insulation, thermal bridge-free construction, mechanical ventilation with heat recovery, and airtight detailing throughout. Architectural drawings were prepared for a planning application.

Planning was not approved.

The project is included here because the drawings demonstrate a particular approach to low-energy residential architecture: one where environmental performance is built into the structure from the beginning rather than added as a layer onto a conventional building.

Not every project that is well designed gets built.
